Deterioration

There are author's out there who will write one book after another, publishing one and putting the others in a safe deposit box.  I, like this, store up one or two posts if I can, just in case.  I'm glad I did, for "just in case" happened and I got a pretty bad case of the flu.  I've been sick for a few days now, but I think I'm on the back end of it.  I still have a pretty good fever, and I'm kind of feeling blah, but other than that I'm doing okay.

 When a Housewife Gets Sick

Day one of the flu - It's Friday and my dog doesn't seem to be herself.  She isn't really up for a walk, but that's okay.  It's been raining pretty good for a couple of days anyway.  I'm looking forward to Monday, for everyone goes to work and I'll be able to really clean the house.  It's been 2 months.  It needs it!  I'm going to crochet all afternoon while watching The Waltons.  I'm going to drink hot tea and work on my blog and actually be able to catch up reading others' blogs.  It's going to be glorious!  Cough, cough, sneeze.

Day two - It's Saturday and I'm starting to feel under the weather.  Coughing, blowing my nose every now and then.  I think I have a cold.  I'm starting to feel the pressure in my cheekbones.  I let the house go because frankly, I just don't feel like it.   My son did the dishes, but as a 17-year-old is want to do, they aren't put away when dry, and he missed a couple.  I'm not sure the counters got wiped down either, but oh well.  It's less I'll have to do tomorrow, right?  I walked the dog, even though it was sprinkling a little bit.  I don't feel well, so the house gets let go, but come Monday I should feel better and I'm going to implement my plan of deep cleaning.  Maybe instead of watching a re-run or two of the The Waltons while I crochet, I'll watch a movie.  I'll make a wonderful dinner with a pie or (maybe two!) for dessert.  Whoa!  The dog just got sick all over the couch and floor!!

Day three - Okay, what is going on?  I can't open my eyes!  I have schmooze in them...some kind of white smooshy junk.  My skin hurts.  My eyelashes hurt.  How do eyelashes hurt?  I have a small fever.  My dog is laying around the house not wanting to do anything at all but sleep next to me on the couch.  I can tell she doesn't feel well at all.  I, too, don't feel like doing much of anything but sit.  Sitting up and conversing is a feat as my brain isn't working well and I'm having problems focusing.  My husband says he'll spend a couple of hours cleaning the house for me that night.  He got caught up in doing something else, and the house gets let go for another day.  This must be the worst of it.  I just know tomorrow I'm going to feel better.  I have to!  Ugh, I need a shower, but just don't feel like getting up.  I've been looking forward to having the house to myself for over a month!!  I just don't feel like a housewife when everyone is home, because I don't do as much.  I'm on weekend mode when everyone is home.  I'm thankful my husband sprung for dinner.  I just don't feel well.  Housework needs done badly.  I'll get a good shower tomorrow.  I think my son is running low on socks.  The floor needs vacuumed and the dishes still need done from...when did they last get done?   I'm coughing so bad I'm peeing when I cough.  How depressing.  I hate being sick in a dirty house.  Did the cat just pee in the bathroom sink again?

Day four - Monday is finally here and I can't get out of bed.  I just lay there unable to open my eyes.  The smooshy junk is back, I'm supposing.  I just go back to sleep. I got up once only to have a heart-to-heart with the toilet and then went back to bed again.  Thank goodness my husband bought dinner again.  I can't do anything.  I need a shower.  The house is a wreck.  I don't even want to look at it.  I check my blog and see all the comments and my heart is enlivened.  I don't feel as sick anymore and want to respond.  Once responded though, my energy is spent and I sit on the couch for the next few hours doing absolutely nothing but sweating out my fever.  I hope I feel better tomorrow.  Even if I don't, I'm going to try to at least do the dishes.  There are no clean dishes left.  If someone wants a drink, they have to wash a glass.  The trash is full to the brim and people just keep adding to it and mashing it down.  Laundry needs done and I can smell it.  I haven't had a shower in a while, but I just can't get up.  The dog has diarrhea...there's some good news.  I'll clean it up. The cat is peeing in the sink again!!!!   I can't take it anymore!!!

Day five - Tuesday is here and what a let down.  I'm still sick, but hey, not as bad as yesterday.  I'm laying there listening to the cat pee in the bathroom sink, and I really don't want to get up.  The dog seems to feel a little better, though she hasn't eaten a thing in three days.  I was up late last night because my husband couldn't sleep and when I'm sick I'm needy, so I stayed up with him.  We didn't go to bed til the wee hours of the morning.  We woke up and he is now sick.  Thankfully, he got a call this morning and was told he couldn't work on those apartments today.  Turns out there are two guys with keys.  One is sick and the other is in meetings.  I'm wondering about the one who's sick.  Is his wife sick?  Is their house clean?  My house isn't.  My house looks like one of those you see on TV where a shut-in lives.  Maybe tomorrow will be better.  I doubt it.  My husband is just now getting sick, and I know all too well that the worst of it will hit him in a couple of days.  My son only has a headache...for now.  I'm hoping I can at least get the kitchen cleaned up and dinner made.  It will be a huge feat.  Pray for me.  I'm really under the gun here.  I'm sick, the house is a total and complete wreck, and I'm really feeling down over it.  I guess I can only do what I can do.  Tomorrow is another day.  God willing and the creek don't rise I'm GOING to clean the house.  I'm GOING to make a really good dinner.  Ugh...I hope.

  1. Oh Michelle, what a horrible time you've had!! Hang in there. It's going to get better and better. This too will pass...

(What a wonderful thought that you ARE going to get well again. It's so sad for the people who are sick and will never get better. Tragic.)

(Once you do recover fully, you'll be able to share with us your thoughts on how you'd 'change/implement/cope/manage' things a little differently next time. We've so much to learn from each other.)

You can do this (and you'll do it well). Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

    1. I love when your comment gives me a different point of view. I cannot imagine being sick all the time. I remember my Grandpa going through chemotherapy. You are so right. I think when I am sick, I am selfish because I am too consumed by, "I'm sick." And yeah, once I'm through it I need to implement some kind of plan or something so I maybe cope better.

  2. As today wore on, I felt better and better. I got dinner made, the dishes done, and my dog and I got out for a walk. She's feeling better, too. We still aren't eating much. I think our stomachs shrunk, lol! I just want to thank you ladies so, so much. I appreciate you more than you know!

  3. Ugh, having the flu is the worst! It really does make you appreciate good health though! I hope you and your dog are on the mend and everyone else in the house stays well!

Oh dear. You have really been ill. But if it makes you feel any better, I coughed so hard yesterday morning that I vomited a little. On the floor. That really makes you feel ladylike...

This link might cheer you up, since you live in RV. I just love those tiny houses.

BTW, how you have managed to fit in deep freezer? I understood you have one.

    1. We do. It's outside under the tongue. It's not a 12" one or anything, but you can see it in the pictures...right side bar of this blog under How-To's with pictures when we replaced the thermostat to the hot water heater. Ty for the link, yeah, I'll take a look!
